The Gulf here is calm, shallow and improbably turquoise — closer to a lagoon than open sea on most days. Expect skyline views from the water, easy conditions, and gear handled for you end to end.

Your day, stop by stop
08:00 · Pickup and marina check-in
Your driver-guide collects you typically around 08:00 and delivers you to the marina, where the crew from our partner operator handles check-in and kit fitting. Masks, snorkels, fins and buoyancy vests are all provided, so you arrive carrying nothing but a towel and sunscreen.
08:45 · Out past the breakwater
The boat clears the marina with the city skyline behind you and the water turning that improbable Gulf turquoise. On the ride out, the guide briefs the sites, the entry routine and the two rules that never bend: touch nothing, chase nothing.
09:30 · The first reef patch
First stop is a shallow reef patch busy with damselfish, snapper and the odd sergeant major with opinions. The guide is in the water with you, helping with mask clearing and pointing out what you would otherwise swim straight past.
10:30 · The seagrass beds
The second stop is turtle country: seagrass meadows where green turtles come to graze. Sightings are frequent but never staged, and when one appears the drill is calm, quiet and side-on. A grazing turtle that ignores you completely is the best outcome there is.
11:15 · Deck time
Back on board there are refreshments, shade and time to dry off. If the group has energy left, there is usually a second dip. If not, the sun deck argues persuasively for doing nothing.
12:00 · Back alongside
The boat returns to the marina around midday and your driver-guide is waiting with cold water and air conditioning already running. You will be back at the hotel in time for a shower and a proper lunch.
Insider tips
- A drop of baby shampoo rinsed through the mask beats spit for anti-fog, and the crew usually has some. Ask before the first stop, not after your mask clouds mid-turtle.
- Wear a rash vest or a t-shirt in the water. Your back floats at the surface for the better part of an hour, and sunscreen alone will lose that argument.
- Approach turtles from the side and slightly behind, never from above. From above you read as a predator, and the encounter ends early.
- Eat a light breakfast, not a hotel buffet victory lap. Your stomach will thank you at the first swell.
- Float still for one full minute at the reef and count what comes out. The fish that hid when the group splashed in return quickly for the patient.
Questions, answered
Will we definitely see turtles?
No, and be wary of anyone who promises otherwise. The seagrass beds are genuine turtle habitat and sightings are frequent, but these are wild animals on their own schedule. What you can count on is reef fish, good visibility on calm mornings, and a guide who knows where the odds are best.
I am not a strong swimmer. Can I still join?
Yes. Buoyancy vests are provided and the guide stays in the water with the group, often with a float ring nervous swimmers can hold. You can also sit out any stop and watch from the deck, which is a perfectly good morning in itself.
Is the kit included, or should I bring my own?
Mask, snorkel, fins and vest are all included by our partner operator. If you own a mask that fits your face well, bring it, because fit matters more than anything else. Prescription masks are not guaranteed, so mention it at booking if you need one.
I get seasick. How rough does it get?
The trip stays in relatively sheltered water and the hops between sites are short, but the Gulf can still roll a little. If you are prone, take a tablet about an hour before departure and sit midship facing forward. Mornings are typically the calmest window, which is exactly when we run.
Can children come?
Family groups are welcome, subject to our partner operator's minimum age for in-water time, and children's kit sizes are carried on board. Tell us ages when you book and we will confirm the rules before anything is charged.
Can I bring a camera?
Action cameras and waterproof phone pouches are welcome and the reef stop photographs well. The one rule is that no shot is worth touching the reef or crowding a turtle. Steady your body, hold your breath, and let the subject come to you.
What happens after you book
You get a confirmation straight away, with the reference and everything included in writing.
The evening before, your driver messages you on WhatsApp with the exact pickup time and their name.
On the day they are early, the water is cold, and the plan bends to you. Pay then, or in advance — your call.
