Abu Dhabi's coast is fringed with mangrove forest, and Jubail Mangrove Park lets you walk into it on raised boardwalks without getting your feet wet. Two and a half hours is time to go slowly: crabs on the mud at low tide, fish in the channels and herons working the edges, with shaded platforms to stop at along the way.
Lunch is on the Eastern Mangroves promenade, beside the mangrove channels closer to the city. The afternoon follows Yas Island's protected shoreline for photographs and, in the cooler months when the reserve is open and the greater flamingos are in, ends at Al Wathba Wetland Reserve before the drive home.

- Low tide is the best time on the boardwalks, when the crabs are out; we time the park around it where we can.
- Bring binoculars for the herons and, in season, the flamingos.

When is Al Wathba Wetland Reserve open?
It opens to visitors in the cooler months, roughly autumn to spring, on set days. We check your date when you book.
Is it good for children?
Yes: the boardwalks are flat and safe, and there is plenty to spot in the mud and the water.
Can we change the order or add a stop?
