The east coast is a different country from the one you flew into: the desert gives way to the jagged Hajar Mountains, and beyond them lies the Gulf of Oman. Your driver takes the mountain road while you watch it change, and the first stop is Al Bidya Mosque, a small domed building of stone and mud, widely held to be the oldest mosque still standing in the UAE, with watchtowers on the ridge behind it.
Fujairah Fort, restored stone on a rise above the old town, and the Heritage Village beside it fill the late morning. Insider tips
- Pack a scarf for the mosque and a hat for the fort: the east coast is often humid as well as hot.

Is Al Bidya Mosque open to visitors?
Yes, outside prayer times, and entry is free. It is a working mosque, so dress modestly and remove your shoes; women should cover their hair.
Can we swim on the east coast?
The beaches are good, but this itinerary does not stop for a swim. If you would like one, tell us at booking and we will shape the day around it within the hours.
Can we change the order or add a stop?
