Khor Fakkan belongs to Sharjah but sits on the far side of the country, on the Gulf of Oman, and the road there cuts through the Hajar Mountains by tunnel and pass. The first stop is the amphitheatre above the town, a Roman-style arena in stone, and the man-made waterfall that falls down the rock face beside it.
Al Rafisah Dam holds a still green lake between steep ridges, with boats for hire and a promenade along the water. Lunch is long and relaxed on the Khor Fakkan beach corniche, and the afternoon is a walk through Shees Park, a small green valley of terraces and falls in the mountains, before the drive home.

Is Khor Fakkan in Sharjah or Fujairah?
It belongs to Sharjah, though it sits on the east coast between parts of Fujairah. Like the rest of Sharjah, it is conservative: dress modestly and expect no alcohol.
Can we hire a boat at the dam?
Usually, yes: pedal boats and kayaks are hired on site and paid there.
Can we change the order or add a stop?
